HARD TO BELIEVE IT’S IKEA!
BY SOPHIE @PEPPAHART
One of the ‘must haves’ in our dream home was storage galore! I wanted the house to look quite minimalist, which meant we needed lots of places to hide all our ‘stuff’ away.
If you’ve ever been quoted for custom joinery before, you’ll know it can be a real budget breaker. Our walk in robe is such a big space that the bill was similar to an entire kitchen! That’s when I knew I needed to look at other options for our wardrobes and office storage. We had used the Pax wardrobe system in our last reno and loved it, so off to IKEA I went. I love an organised wardrobe - all the felt jewellery drawers and sunglasses drawers are right up my alley!
How to choose your perfect IKEA wardrobe
It’s worth having a look online first to see all the options and finishes you can choose from.
I went into our closest IKEA store to make our final choices and the staff were so helpful! They popped my measurements into their 3D design program to help me make my selections. I got to play with all of the accessories in store to see what would work best for us. Hello stacked shoe compartments and pull-out pants racks! The team at IKEA gave me a unique code for our final design so that I could log onto their site from home to make further tweaks to the design. Once Bell and I were happy with it all, we ordered online and everything arrived within a week! #holymotherofflatpacks

Kids’ Bedrooms
Love this system as we can switch it up as the kids get older, add more hanging space etc. But while they are little, this set up is perfect for nappies, swaddles, books - all the cute tiny things they have.

The guest bedroom is mainly hanging and open shelves. My girlfriends love coming over to a space where they can hang their clothes for the weekend.

Installation
Like any IKEA product, the wardrobes all arrived as flatpacks. It was rather daunting to see 4 TONNES of cabinets on the driveway so I was super relieved we’d paid the extra fee for IKEA to build the wardrobes on site. I think my husband would have left me if I’d delegated him that job! #hisjoblistwashugealready
Now they’re in and we’re using them every day, I can honestly say they’re fabulous, both in looks and functionality. I can’t fault any of the products we chose. My one piece of advice would be that just because you’re not using ‘custom’ products, it doesn’t mean you can’t make them look custom. We added gorgeous Sibella Court brass handles and a pinky/nude concrete benchtop in the office. You’d never guess the cupboards weren’t purpose built for the space, they even soft close.
