THE KITCHEN THAT BROKE THE INTERNET
If you’re a Reno School student, you may recognise this as the kitchen that broke the Reno School internet!
When Reno Schooler Katy Schuman shared photos of her new home in the group this week, the comments went crazy with compliments, love heart emojis exploded and the Three Birds team text chat went into overload.
Located in Paradise Valley, a small town in Maricopa County, Arizona, Katy’s new home is a sight for sore eyes. Never mind the stunning mountain views, Katy's ‘new build’ home will throw all preconceptions of ‘new’ homes out the window and leave you breathless.
With only the tennis course existing, the build started in August 2018 but, in true COVID style, it was delayed, resulting in a 2.5 year build time. The challenge for Katy was that she had materials flying in from all around the world to create her masterpiece. When you see the Belgian Blue stone and French oak timber floors, you’ll agree the wait was worth it.
The entire home has plaster walls, painted in Benjamin Moore ‘Swiss Coffee’, a subtle off white which brings texture and warmth to the spacious home.
”I have followed Three Birds Renovations for a long time and enjoyed and learned a lot from the Reno School from afar. I have fallen in love with their simple, understated, natural, organic, interior style.
You guys have been a huge influence on my creation. My other obsession is coastal homes in Spain so I kinda meshed the two together and created this awesome home. I’m not sure what you would call it! I have been calling it ‘High-end Hippy’.”
Our favourite room has to be THAT kitchen. We just can’t get enough of all its tonal, textured glory!
The solid white oak cabinets are recessed in plaster to give an “old-world style”, with practical, modern additions like the pot filler tap located behind the stove and water filter beside the sink. Katy “wanted the house to feel like I remodelled an old home with contemporary elements.”
Katy chose not to include many upper cabinets, favouring display shelves instead. Pantry items, extra ovens and a microwave are hidden away in a butler’s pantry, along with a sink and prep area, to keep the mess out of sight. There’s a place for everything and everything is in its place.
We asked Katy if she was ready to sit back, relax and enjoy her gorgeous home after the long build? “This has been such a fun job! Now I’m wanting to start something else .... I’m addicted!”
