OUR CHECKLIST FOR A DREAM HOME EXTERIOR

✔️coastal cool cladding

Curb appeal is King so nailing the exterior materials for our Dream Home was high on the priority list. James Hardie Linea never fails to achieve a weatherboard wonderland look and we love to complement it with the chunky Axent trims around the windows to make them pop.

White’s not always right, but when your vision board says #coastalcool it definitely is. Linea weatherboards come pre-primed making it easy for your painter to get straight to work rolling or spraying on your fave colour.

✔️WATER VIEWS

We got lucky at Candice’s place that the pool was in prime position, right outside the floor-to-ceiling lounge room windows, like a glistening water feature. If you’re building a Three Birds Dream Home on your block you can be flexible with pool placement but don’t underestimate the calming vibes a water view can bring, even if you’re nowhere near the coast.

✔️a gas strut window

It wouldn’t be the ‘best of the Birds’ house without a gas strut window! We used them since our very first house and, holy moly, we’ve never looked back! They’re such a great way to open the interior to the exterior. The reasons we love gas struts are many: the unobstructed view when closed versus bi-folds; the ease of opening and closing (you literally nudge the window and it opens up like it’s motorised; it’s such a space saver compared to bi-folds, which stack up to one side and take up valuable servery and seating space; when open, it acts as an awning and provides cover from rain; it looks hot… shall we go on?

✔️A FLEXIBLE firepit ZONE

One of the things we love to do when designing outdoor areas is to think about how we can break them up into distinct zones. Each zone can be used for different groups of people, activities or even seasons. A firepit is a fabulous inclusion to any yard - build a gorgeous curved bench seat around it and it’s easy to switch out for a coffee table in summer.

✔️finish with a fence

Adding an attractive fence at the front of your property can add value to your home by not only making it look bigger and better but also by providing an increased level of security for kids and pets. In the case of House 14, we used a solid front wall from Modular Walls which creates privacy from the street, allowing for the front yard to useable entertaining space #hellofirepit. The EstateWall is clad with Veneer Stone to add warmth, texture and character.
