WHY LINEA WEATHERBOARD WAS A NO-BRAINER FOR OUR THREE BIRDS DREAM HOME
Our love affair with James Hardie’s cladding products goes back many years and many houses. We’ve used Linea weatherboard and Stria cladding on the exteriors of our homes and more recently HardieFlex with Axent trim to create a board and batten look at House 13.
So, when it was time to choose the exterior materials for our Three Birds Dream Home, it was a no-brainer to bring the James Hardie team along for the ride. And which product? The answer was sitting front and centre of our vision board. #visionboardknowsbest
IT HAD TO BE LINEA
We used Linea weatherboards at House 8 to create the #moderncoastalbarn Bonnie had always dreamed of. The gorgeous, wide Linea weatherboards scream ‘coastal’ and we knew they’d be perfect to bring the #coastalcool vibes to our Three Birds Dream Home too.
Linea weatherboards give a contemporary look because they’re square with no machined profile concaves or grooves and are smooth without any wood grain effect. We choose the 180mm boards (Linea also comes in a 150mm width) because of the way the boards overlap to create deep shadow lines and a distinctive, premium look. For an extra high-end look, we finish off the corners with Linea aluminium external corner soakers (or as we call them, Christmas Trees) … because the devil’s in the details.
As well as just looking damn hot, we choose Linea weatherboards for their product credentials. They’re made from fibre cement, a combination of wood fibres, sand and cement which means it is super-durable and won’t warp or swell. It’s also resistant to damage from moisture and termites - all the things that make timber weatherboards look shabby over time. They’re low maintenance and won’t need to be repainted as soon as timber boards either.
James' Hardie’s fibre cement products are also bush fire resistant so are suitable for use within BAL rated properties.
The thick boards allow for tongue and groove ends meaning they can be joined without a supporting stud to reduce wastage and cost, making them a great choice for your budget too.
If your vision is for a dark home, like House 9, that you can be confident using Linea weatherboard with dark colours too. Many timber and wood composite weatherboards recommend against painting dark colours as it accelerates deterioration but you can rest assured Linea’s fibre cement composition will stand the test of time, opening up a world of design aesthetics and choices of colour for your home.
