3 RENO SCHOOLERS' RENOS REVEALED!

BY LANA

Try saying that three times quickly after a quarantini … or two.

There are many delights of Reno School but the icing on the cake for me, is when our clever students share photos of their completed projects after months (if not years!) of us following along on their journey via our exclusive Facebook community. Honestly, sometimes I feel so invested you’d think these were our own Three Birds projects!

I’m proud as punch to share the completed reno projects of a charming cottage in Victoria, a coastal retreat in Queensland and a haven in the hills in South Australia. Our borders may be closed, but with these pics we can travel!

Renovating is a big enough task, but doing it all from another country… well that’s a whole different ball game - and one that Debbie Wong definitely won, hands down! Based in Singapore, whilst renovating in Australia, is not necessarily something that Debbie recommends to other renovating novices but the final result was absolutely worth it. The key to her success? Debbie says it’s bringing a great team on board, like @gtobuilding who she couldn’t have done it without.

Her project, Noa by the Beach, a boutique luxury accommodation in Little Cove, Noosa, is nothing short of stunning. And, best of all, it’s available to rent! Bookmark this baby because we’re all going to need a holiday here post-COVID! In fact if you read the other blog I just wrote about my travel plans later this year, I think I’ll have to check this accommodation out in person.

For us, The Reno School was invaluable. It was a great tool to understand the full process of a renovation (step by step) and the building lingo used. From the outset, we took full advantage of all the useful tools provided as part of The Reno School, including the budget template, real-life renovation examples, practical tips from industry insiders and everything in between.

A new build in
the Adelaide Hills

Tucked away in the Adelaide Hills, with views of greenery from every window, sits Tamara Gollan’s pride and joy – the family home she designed and styled herself. Tamara’s project was a Knock Down Rebuild (or a KDR in Reno School lingo) which meant clearing the site and building from scratch.

We love all the heartfelt touches in this home, like the front door (painted blue to replicate Tamara’s father’s front door where he grew up in Malta), the giant family-sized bathtub (that took eight men to lift into the house) and the name plaque ‘Gollove’ (a blend of their surname, Gollan, and the word ‘love’).

The Three Birds have been so inspiring! I absolutely love their style of simple, minimalism and bold. Without them, there is no way I would have chosen to have HardieDeck for our property - which is such a game-changer. The Reno School Facebook page is also most helpful and I love being part of that group.

A period beauty in Victoria

image (1).jpg

Kristina Hirst had always dreamed of renovating and when her family moved from Sydney to the beautiful community of Hamilton, five years ago, the opportunity finally came about. Drawn to the weatherboards and character of the early 1900s cottage, she got stuck in to bring this beauty back to life.

This little diamond in the rough is certainly sparkling now - and up for sale, if you’re in the market in Hamilton!

The Reno School gave me the confidence to go ahead with my first renovation. It was insightful at every stage of the build. Thank you Three Birds Renovations.
