SKIRTS WORTH SHOUTING ABOUT

While we’re partial to a fabulous skirt in our wardrobes, like Erin’s one that broke the internet, we’re big fans of fancy skirts (aka skirting boards) throughout the rest of our houses too.

We’re big believers that it’s all the little details in a renovation or build that sum together to create the wow factor so, you’ll never regret spending the time it takes to get the details right.

let’s talk trims

Trims, you say? By ‘trims’ we mean skirting boards (which sit at the base of your walls) and the architraves (which are the frames around your windows and door openings). In our experience, we’ve found that these details are often overlooked, which is such a shame because they can make the world of difference to a room.

Many rookie renovators don’t even realise they have a choice of trims and will end up with the standard ones the builder has quoted. If you’d like something a little more spesh in your home, you’ll need to know what profile you’d prefer to be able to specify them upfront. A friendly word of warning - there are literally thousands of options available and choosing between them can be a bit overwhelming but a good place to start is looking at some pictures of beautiful rooms and seeing if there are any trims you like the look of. Your vision board should also help guide your style.

We choose Intrim skirts and arcs for all our projects and we love that you can shop by style on their website to help narrow down your choices. Intrim allows you to select from a range of heights, materials and finishes to suit your needs and can be a godsend for your budget!

SOME OF OUR SKIRTS

HOUSE 8 - CLASSIC COASTAL

For her own home, Bonnie chose a simple profile that looks great in any coastal style property. With such a huge amount of product needed, she opted for the 18mm thickness which is much cheaper than the 30mm version, but the end result looks very similar.

Intrim SK58 - 230x18mm skirting & 115x18mm architraves

house 9 - THE BOLD EXTENSION

We chose a gently curved profile for this family home that adds subtle details without being a standout design feature because sometimes #lessismore.

HOUSE 10 - Complementary curves

Did you know that one of the more functional purposes of skirting boards is to protect the walls from accidental bumps and knocks? These curved boards not only look fab but help protect Sophie’s walls from many toy car and scooter incidents.

Intrim SK23 - 230x18mm skirting & 115x18mm architraves

house 11 - classic Hamptons

This classic Hamptons profile was perfect for our #colourmehamptons home. Intrim’s profiles are specially crafted in a range of timbers including pine and moisture-resistant MDF and they’re available pre-primed, helping you save even more time on your project.

Intrim SK52 - 185x18mm skirting & 90x18mm architraves

HOUSE 13 - TRADITIONAL TRIMS

A big house will tall ceilings calls for statement skirting boards and these 285mm tall whoppers are our most super-sized skirts yet! We accentuated them even more in the boys’ room by painting them Dulux Blue Metal.

Intrim SK81 - 285x18mm skirting & 135x18mm architraves

HOUSE 14 - coastal cool skirts

Our Three Birds Dream home called for family-friendly, coastal cool skirts and arcs.

Intrim SK1474 - 185x18mm skirting & 90x18mm architraves

THREE BIRDS top tip

Be like Bon (and Lana!) and opt for a thinner version of the skirting profile you like. The cost is significantly less but the end result is very similar.
