HOME IS WHERE THE ART IS
BY BONNIE
I think there’s nothing more boring than blank white walls that are just begging to be dressed up! Whether it’s framed prints or textured tapestries, we love to add interest and personality to our homes with artwork. Art is one of those things that really makes a house feel like a home.
At House 10, Sophie’s whole vision for her home was inspired by the Mediterranean, so it only makes sense that it’s a common theme in her artwork too!
Come with me on a tour of the art that makes the Bell’s house their home:
Front Entryway
When the front entrance to your home resembles a gallery, it’s a pretty good teaser for what’s to come! Enter through those big arched glass doors and you’re greeted by three stunning, over-sized prints.
In the first print, the umbrellas ‘Old World Wonder’ taken at La Reserve de Beaulieu Hotel in France, by Stuart Cantor.
Next, are pics taken by Soph herself on European travels. Yes, that’s her hubby sun baking under the Mediterranean sun! The best part? You can buy your own copy here.
The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in Sophie’s family, you’ll see her clever Mum’s artworks throughout this house too. Like this one below in the hallway.
Kids’ Bedrooms
The beauty of ‘art’ is that it really can be anything you want it to be! Don’t be afraid to think outside of traditional framed prints or canvases.
In baby Peppa’s room, we created a collection of precious pieces to add some texture and interest to her white walls. The hula hoop and bamboo coat hangers are from Children of the Tribe and the clothes are Sophie’s own.
On the opposite wall we hung the gorgeous OYOY Follow the Rainbow wall rug from Milk Tooth.
Hendrix is only three but we created him a bedroom that will stand the test of time. His dad’s hoping the Maywood surfboard will foster a love of surfing, like his own!
The cluster of the wall-mounted paper roller, peace flag and “woody” mammoth tusk add some boyish fun. And the Land of Liberty flag is made from recycled denim jeans – how cool’s that?
Guest Bedroom
Any guests lucky enough to stay in Sophie’s guest bedroom are in for a treat. There’s a Slim Aarons print on one wall and the bed head, painted by Sophie’s mum and the Beacon wall sconces are like works of art themselves!
Media Room
Have you noticed we like hanging our art off-centre? It doesn’t always need to be smack bang in the middle of a wall. See how we’ve created a cluster of interesting eye candy with the cushions and lamp to draw your eye to the Damian Bennett print and the same goes on the opposite wall with the little House of Orange ‘Stella’ and ‘Aimee’ prints above the cabinet.
Powder Room
Yes, even the powder room has art! And it’s none other than the cute little bum of Master Hendrix, hanging out at a beach club in Croatia. Art doesn’t get much cuter than this!
The Great Room
Two whole walls of this combined kitchen, dining, living space are glass doors that reveal the view to the terrace and rainforest beyond, which is pretty much a masterpiece in itself!
We snuck another Damian Bennett print in the corner and filled these gorgeous custom niches with white and grey vases. The beauty of these is that Sophie can swap them out for different trinkets over time, so she’ll never get bored.
I can’t get enough of all these hot, tanned bods on Mediterranean beaches on Sophie’s walls and here’s another in the breakkie nook.
The Peppa Hart Office
Art need not break the bank, like these budget-friendly choices from Freedom in Soph’s office. We grouped three pieces from the same series together to span along this wall.
Soph’s mum strikes again. Can you spot her print next to the gold mirror? Mirrors are a great alternative to traditional art. They reflect light around the room and make a space seem bigger than it really is.
Walk in Robe
When your WIR is worthy of art this good.
This piece from Jai Vasicek has certainly won a lot of hearts on our tours of Sophie’s place. It’s Lana’s fave of the whole house and I can see why.
Do you have a favourite piece of art from Sophie’s place?
