TBH, we were still busy trying to work out whether Lana called Bon’s choice of bedhead ‘clever’ or ‘pleather’ when we got eleventy billion messages saying “I want to eat that bedhead!” Say, whaaat?

It’s a bit of a luxury to have an ensuite in a little 3-bedroom cottage but a challenge that we were determined to make work to create a special space for these busy mums. After all, when you spend around a third of your life in your bedroom, you may as well make it a room you love!

Let’s take a closer look…

OUR recipe for this sweet master suite

Method

Take a total area of 5.2 x 3.6 metres, then divide the space into a bedroom, ensuite bathroom and double wardrobes.

To create our favourite space-saving layout for a rectangular bathroom, add one shower positioned against the far wall and then line up all the utilities alongside it, lengthways down the room. The width of the shower will determine the width of the ensuite - 1.5 metres in this case. Stand the ensuite aside while you create the bedroom.

Continue with the 3.7 x 3.6 metres remaining space and add a 820mm wide door. Whip up some wardrobes, 2.8 metres wide and recessed 510mm deep.

Allow to sit while you prepare the icing…

THE ICING ON THE CAKE

Once you’ve made the base, it’s time to work your magic to create some eye candy in your master suite.

Here’s all the sweet deets of how we did it at House 12:

Bedroom

Window - What’s behind the arched window today? No longer a view of the carport, that’s for sure! Remember how we removed the existing bedroom window to reposition the ensuite? We replaced it with a gorgeous, arched window from Colonial Warehouse, on a side wall away from the noisy road.

Floors - There’s nothing like stepping out of bed to the feeling of plush carpet between your tootsies. This beautiful woollen carpet is manufactured in Australia by EC Carpets. The tone blends perfectly and the pile adds an element of texture.

Trims - We used Gyprock cornices combined with Intrim arcs and skirts to make sweet trim magic.

Paint - You’ll recognise Dulux ‘Clay Pipe’ from the living and dining spaces and this time we’ve paired her with Dulux ‘Pancake Mix’ on the wardrobe doors (anyone else hungry yet?) for the prettiest tone-on-tone vibes.

THAT bedhead - Maybe Bonnie had biscuits on the brain when she created the custom bedhead with the team at Create Estate! You know, a bit like when you go to the supermarket on an empty stomach and end up walking out with with allll the snacks! But we love how it turned out and it’s now available to order for your own sweet retreat too.

En-SWEET

Walls - We’re loving this tile/grout combo as much as a fat kid loves donuts. Just look at how the Mapei ‘Pink Powder’ grout just make those Tile Cloud tiles POP!

Floors - Same same but very different to the walls! We used the same shaped tile and same colour grout as the walls but the tile colour and the way they’re laid totally changes the look. This room goes to show the versatility of subway tiles and Tile Cloud have so many goodies to choose from.

Tapware - Beware, the tapware is alive! This amazing ‘Living Rustic Brass’ finish on all the tapware, from Reece, is a beautiful blend of dark and light brown colours that will patina and age gracefully over time.

Arched shelf - Why have a standard shelf when you can have a recessed ARCH shelf! Gyprock Flexible plasterboard has been our go-to product to create the gorgeous arches throughout this home. We lined it with a Talostone bench top to give it an extra special finish.

Skylight - We love a skylight in a bathroom… and one that opens is the crème de la crème!

ADD A CHERRY ON THE TOP

Wardrobe

Decorate your standard wardrobe doors by adding gorgeous Intrim arched details for a Champagne look on a beer budget. We love how they totally transform the robes. Pop on some gorgeous handles and you’re done!
