RIVER SHACK’S TOP 10 STYLING TIPS

We’ve never renovated a property which had to be so practical and beautiful at the same time.  Here are our top styling tips from the River Shack.

ONE - FAUX PLANTS
(JUST ADD WATER)

If you’re not the “watering plants type”, bite the bullet and buy them faux.  But if you want them to look real, add water to the vase.  Nothing screams “fake flowers” more than a dusty, dry vase.

TWO - MIRRORS, MIRRORS, MIRRORS

We’ve used loads of mirrors and reflective surfaces to make the space feel bigger.  Our favourite mirror is the one from Gallery Homewares in the master bedroom. It reflects the gorgeous bed the second you walk into the room.

THREE - STORAGE QUEENS

Move over Storage King, the storage queens are in town with storage in almost every nook and cranny in the river shack.  There’s hidden storage under the bunk beds, the day beds, the bench seats and under the kitchen servery #storageathon

FOUR - DINING NOOK

If you live in a small space but still want to have a 6 seater dining table, try building an eating nook. This will work best with bench seats, a small round table and stools on the other side that can be tucked under the table when not in use.

FIVE - THAT'S NO ORDINARY OTTOMAN

It’s hard to find a more space-saving concept than the BoConcept ottoman which turns into a bed (in the blink of an eye I might add).  Like seriously that is off the charts on the clever scale.

SIX - WALL SCONCES ARE A WINNER

If you’ve got a reeeally skinny bedroom, ditch the side tables and side lamps and opt for wall sconces and a console table at the end of the room instead.

SEVEN - WINDOW SEAT WONDER

We love love love a window seat because they look so good AND provide another place to sit and relax.  They’re simple to build and can look a million bucks if you clad them like we have in James Hardie Axon™. Add soft pillows and a wall sconce to finish it off.

EIGHT - THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME

In a weekender property, you want it to feel like a home away from home so it’s the little things you add which will make a big difference.  Books, candles and other trinkets are key in making a holiday place feel like your home.

NINE - DON'T BE AFRAID TO MIX PATTERNS AND COLOURS

Have fun and be brave!! In the master bedroom we mixed leopard print with blush and army green, not to mention a peek of red stripes (can you see them!?)  …. all of this gorgeous linen is from Society of Wanderers.

TEN - WE'RE HOOKED ON HOOKS

Not enough people use hooks in their homes! And I’m not talking about the ugly white plastic picture hooks you buy from Bunnings.  You can find gorgeous timber and brass hooks in boutique homewares stores that add a relaxed vibe and are also so practical for hanging things from.  Get some hot hooks up on your walls this weekend!

Do not miss out on entering our Marr-Kett Vintage rug competition, entering is mega easy gang. And the best part is the winner will get to pick ONE of FOUR rugs, so you get the one that suits your house best.
