10 YEARS OF TRANSFORMATIONS: OUR FAVOURITE BEFORE & AFTERS
As we celebrate 10 incredible years of Three Birds Renovations, we’re feeling all the feels - grateful for the journey, nostalgic for those early days, and honoured by the transformations we’ve had the privilege of creating. What started as three friends taking a chance on flipping houses has grown into something we never could have imagined - a community of renovators, dreamers, and doers who inspire us every single day.
To mark this 10-year milestone, we’re reflecting on some of our all-time favourite before-and-afters. With over 17 homes and hundreds of room transformations behind us, narrowing it down to just 10 was no easy task. But we hope these favourites resonate with you as much as they do with us.
Thank you for being part of this incredible journey. Enjoy!
DEAD SPACE BECOMES LIFE OF THE PARTY
This was only our second project ever, and the goal was to add significant value to this home in just six weeks. Creating a space for alfresco living was high on our must-do list, so we transformed a disused storage area into an inviting entertaining patio. We added a gas strut window and servery to seamlessly connect the kitchen to the outdoors and wow, did that transform the space. Hello alfresco living!
UGLY DUCKLING TO BLACK SWAN
Our ninth project was a quickie reno of an old-school Aussie eyesore. This ‘60s home lacked any character or charm, it had no endearing features and absolutely zero street appeal - just what we were looking for! #uglyduckling The first thing we addressed was the facade - and boy did it need some reno magic!
The first thing we tackled was the façade - it was crying out for some reno magic! With a bit of care and creativity, we turned this ugly duckling into a beautiful black swan.
TIRED WORKER’S COTTAGE TO CONTEMPORARY FAMILY HOME
This charming cottage is home to a family of four who took a leap of faith - entrusting us with their home, their budget, and their vision for a contemporary makeover of their old house. And so, it became our 12th project!
BLACK BOX EXTENSION
Most developers would have opted to demolish this fibro shack, but we wanted to prove that you don’t have to knock these homes down - you can transform them into your dream home, and do it fast! The modern black extension was the game-changer, completely transforming the rear of House 5.
EIGHTIES BRICK TO HAMPTONS HAVEN
For our eleventh project, we took this plain-Jane Aussie double-storey brick build and gave it a stunning Hamptons-inspired makeover, complete with pops of colour and personality. The lack of street appeal was a big challenge, so making it more inviting was at the top of our to-do list.
FROM SHACK TO BLACK BEAUTY
Over the years, we’ve tackled all sorts of houses, but this one was a completely different challenge - it was quite literally our tiniest reno ever! Small-space living guided every design decision we made, including making the most of the outdoor area with a bold design. The deck spans the entire width of the shack, with central steps leading down to the water, maintaining the boxy, symmetrical look.
GOODBYE BORING, HELLO HAMPTONS
When the vision board said, “Colour me Hamptons,” we set out to bring that dream to life! This plain old living room was given a warm Hamptons-inspired makeover with thoughtful touches like a cosy window seat, wall moulding details, timber flooring, and layered textures to add charm and character.
And if before you say, “Won’t they freeze?” - don’t worry! We relocated the split system to a more discreet spot, ensuring the family stays comfy and cosy (or cool) all year round.
1990’s SUBURBIA TO dream URBAN FARMHOUSE
This home had great bones, but the brick exterior and terracotta roof were serving serious 1990s suburbia vibes, and the tired interior needed a refresh to suit a modern family of five. This façade transformation is our biggest yet, and it sets the perfect tone for what’s waiting inside.
CLICHÉ COUNTRY KITCHEN TO CONTEMPORARY FARMHOUSE
There was definitely timber on the mood board for our Urban Farmhouse vision… but we didn’t quite plan for this much timber! In this kitchen reno, it wasn’t just about nailing the dreamy aesthetic - it was all about opening up the kitchen to the conservatory for that seamless open-plan flow and squeezing in more seating for a family that loves to entertain.
TIRED TO TERRIFIC BACKYARD TRANSFORMATION
When your backyard transformation is this good, why not use it to host a wedding? That’s exactly what happened at House 12. In the middle of an 8-week reno whirlwind, Lana casually offered to throw a wedding for the lovely homeowners in their soon-to-be-stunning backyard. It was a wild ride… and the perfect day for a dreamy white wedding.
So, there you have it - 10 of our absolute fave before-and-after transformation pics from the past 10 years! What do you reckon? Do you agree with our picks?
