When you don’t have the space on your floor-plan for a dedicated powder room for guests, we like to make sure that the main bathroom is extra spesh, suitable for the most VIP of visitors. And the bonus is that you’ll get a beautiful bathroom to use every day too.

Our vision for the main bathroom at House 12 included lots of natural tones and textures and soft, glowy day spa vibes. To bring this to life, we did some things we’ve never done in a bathroom before and thought we’d share a little inspiration to help you achieve this dreamy look at your place…

SMOOTH & DREAMY WALLS

We chose Mineral Fox microcement for the walls and ceiling. It’s visually the most perfect texture but so soft to the touch. Weird but true fact: Bon couldn’t stop rubbing her face against this wall, it feels that good!

Microcement is a very good choice for areas that are directly exposed to water, such as showers and vanities. It’s flexible so it won’t crack due to movement (perfect for curved features like these!) and (maybe the best thing!) is that there are no joints so it makes cleaning and maintenance very easy. See ya later soap scum!

GLORIOUS grout LINES

‘Carribean’ is the name of this Mapei grout colour and who doesn’t want a touch of the Caribbean in their bathroom? We thought it was so glorious that it deserved double the action.

For the first time ever, we doubled the size of the horizontal grout lines to add thickness and interest and we’re loving how it really shows off the Tile Cloud tiles and gorgeous grout. The thick lines are a whopping 2.5cm and if your tiler baulks at that, just show him/her this pic!

LIVING TAPWARE & SLIMLINE BATHROOMWARE

Warning: the tapware in this house is alive! It’s all been custom coated with a ‘Living Rustic Bronze’ finish to give it the warm, earthy finish we were looking for. The bronze is ‘living’ which means it it will age and patina beautifully over time.

Bronze, you say? When we’re talking tapware, bronze certainly doesn’t mean third place! This colour is an absolute winner, especially next to the soft, slimline curves of the free-standing bath and basin, all from Reece.

THE HANGING GARDENS OF WINDSOR

The view of a suburban fence wasn’t going to cut it for our dreamy day spa vision, so the vertical garden was a must-have to create a lush garden panorama instead. Foliage says RELAX!

It might be the first time, but we don’t think it’ll be the last, that we use one of these Urban Eden vertical gardens. It’s even self-watering so it does the hard work for you, allowing your plants to grow quickly and healthily. Boom!

YOU GLOW, GIRL!

When you’re bathing in suburbia, privacy is always a priority, so we installed a Luxaflex Evo Awning which can be closed at the press of a button when the bathroom’s in use. When it’s down, this retractable awning softens the light to create a filter fabulous enough to make any Insta-influencer swoon. It really makes the whole room glow.

If you’re playing “Where’s Evo” and haven’t had any luck spotting it, that’s because it’s installed externally and is hiding outside, above the window.
